Yukon Solaris 16×50 WP

The very high 16x magnification and large, but not massive 50mm lens combination is not one that is commonly used on binoculars so this model is interesting.

The high magnification is obviously designed for achieving a high level of image detail at long distances. However, keep in mind that unless you have very steady hands, at 16x, the power is probably too high for most people to use the binoculars for long periods of time and still be able to keep the image shake free enough to obtain a good view.

Therefore it is recommended that you attach the binocular onto a tripod. Luckily Yukon has made this easy to do as these Solaris binoculars are tripod adaptable and use the standard ¼ inch thread used on most standard tripod adapters.

The 16×50 combination creates a 3.1mm exit pupil (50/16), this is considered quite small and thus it would not be ideal to choose this model if you are often going to need to use your binocular in poor light conditions.

At only 70 meters wide at a distance of 1000 meters, the high power also restricts the field of view and so whilst you get more image detail, you lose out on the width of the view.

As well as greatly reducing the field view and low light performance, another disadvantage of increasing the magnification on a binocular is that it also often results in a reduced eye-relief. At only 10mm, these binoculars will not be suitable if you need to use glasses whilst looking through your binoculars.
